What exactly are the symptoms that makes him think it needs a transmission pump ??? I've never in the last 18 years at a dealership, seen a transmission pump in a 410 or 310, that was bad enough that it wouldnt operate the machine. It was always some other (and many times minor) problem. But ...if you can prey on their ignorance to get a good deal...then so be it...It may have problems...and they may not be minor...but I tend never to believe anyone that says the transmission pump is bad...one of these years I'm sure I'll be proved wrong...describe what it does or doesn't do ..and we'll see what we can do...

i dont know what the machine does/doesnt do.i asked the guy if he was SURE it was the pump,he said yes.seems like a good machine, otherwise, good price, rebuilt engine.i will call him tomorrow, maybe go look at it.he did tell me he rigged a 12v pump to so he could move machine around.what are the signs of a bad trans pump,so i'll know what to look for,and could it be a bad trans?.thanks so much for the help, this site is the best.

The trans. pump supplies engagement pressure for the reverser and also supplies oil to the front high pressure hydraulic pump (thats what operates the steering, loader and backhoe). If the pump isnt operating, nothing will work. No drive and no hydraulics , as the front pump cannot draw oil on its own . It has to be fed oil from the transmission sump. A gentleman on here a few days ago had the same problem with a 410 (same set-up) and the trouble ended up being a transmission pump relief valve that was stuck open . No parts--about an hours worth of time...and it was fixed..It also could be a failed engine clutch or related parts, A clogged suction screen from failed brakes and/or cylinder packings... Again...I would tend to be skeptical of a failed pump. But if he is convinced that is the problem, make him happy and just agree...

i called the owner,he said there's no hydraulic pressure, the 2 buckets wont function, says its only pumping 8 gal. per minute.so this means it is definately the trans pump, bad news.
