Man Did I goof... Not looking I drove over a peice of metal sticking up out of the ground..
Big fat hole in my rear tire!!
Now this tire has very good tread and is/was in good cond. The hole is about three inches kind of like a star tear.
I was thinking about putting a tube in it,, and

maybe rig up the tire by sewing the hole closed with some strong copper or aluminum wire to keep the tube from blowing out the hole. (sound crazy???) Then applying a patch over the hole,,
then of course installing tube...
Anyone done this?? sound like it might work??
No I cant afford a new tire!! Let me know what you think!!

OR if you have a better idea let me in on it!!

Allen the Poor boy.

What size is it, I have several used tires of various sizes. May be able to help for the cost of a boot and the time to change it.

I fixed mine by cutting a piece of rubber out of an old auto tire, contact cementing it on the inside, over the hole, and installing a tube. That was about 500 hours ago on the tractor and has never leaked.

I have heard of what the others here have said -- some just put a patch over the cut on the inside of the tire then install a tube, some vulcanize. Never heard of "sewing" it. How would you actually do that? Also know that nowadays they make some real good specialty glues that might hold that tear together - to allow use of a tube with no other patching or vulcanizing.

I have a hole in my JD 5020 tire the inside one. My brother was going to push it foreward with our fork lift, before I said be careful if the fork slips the other fork will punch the tire. I wasent fast enough now I have a hole in the tire. My brother said he will have it sectionned, I think it is something like a boot. Needless to say I wasen't very happy.

I drove over a cutoof bush and punched a whole in a rear tire. I put a heavy boot in it That was 14 years ago and I still use the tire The slit is about 3" long now.

Had an ugly gash on a sidewall on a rear tractor tire. Took it to a tire dealer that specializes in truck tires and recapping. He took it off, put a large patch called a boot inside, and revulcanized the outside. Has held up well, for over a year, and you have to look closely to even find the damage! Looks like a scuff mark! Cost me $68, and was money well spent.
