We have a 47 John Deere G, with a big, heavy, wide front end. We're sure it wasn't factory issued, but front-end parts for an R fit. Does anyone have a G with a Schwartz wide front that they could share a picture of? Thanks!

Kathie

All parts on a Schwartz or SPEE CO wide front would be made out of standard angle and plate iron and standard pipe. The mounting bracket would be angle iron with two plates welded to the angle irons to come down to form the front pivot point. There would be two smaller plates welded to the back of the angle iron mount to form the back pivot point. The brace that welds to the pipe axel that goes back to the rear pivot point is a standard 1" (I think 1") rod. The steering arm under the petestal would also be welded together pieces. JD deere would have cast parts and somewhere on the castings there would be a JD casting number. But not on the hubs as the after market wide fronts didn't come with the hubs. So they would most likey be JD hubs and bearings. What parts from a "R" do you mean? the hubs and bearings? Tierods from just about any thing could be made to fit.

Wasn't the R front a standard type, non adjustable? I believe the wide fronts from later models, 4010 etc could be adapted to fit the g.

Mike and Dan, we'll look at it and see if it matches Mike's Schwartz description. I can't remember what hubby had to replace on the G, but R parts fit, and G parts didn't. However, the G front isn't the same as on an R; we've got one of those, too, and the front ends are two different animals. I just got back some pics of the G on CD. I could e-mail them to you to look at.

'Tis a puzzlement!

Could it be a Standard front off a 70 Standard??? or the upper housing off a 70 standard with an R axle housing??? Post some pics.. and some part numbers..
