Anybody, I was wondering if anybody out there has a john deere tractor out there to restore. I am looking for an a,b,g,m,h, or L, anything in the letter series. I am looking for great tin, and a good motor, not to mention a resonable price. I live in central Iowa. Thanks.

In my opinion, the best place to find one is to buy one on a farm auction from the person that used it for the last 20 - 50 years. Running, not painted and not from an assembled collection of tractors.

You might as well forget about the reasonable price part!

I was at a farm sale a couple of weekends ago. The man had recently passed away but had not farmed for at least 20 years. He had several old 2 cylinder JDs in various stages of disrepair, none of which ran and they all brought more than $2500. He also had a 3020 WF diesel with a side console. The engine was in pieces (not sure if it was all there) tires were shot, and sheet metal was beat up. Some guy paid $5,000 for that junker!

The guy must have been smoking crack, because You can buy good running 3020s all day long around here for $6K because they are too big for most hobby farmers, and too small for the full time guys, who want cabs. The 2 cylinders are all overprice becaus it is mostly collectors buying them.
