1938 D PULLEY BRAKE

The pulley brake pad is worn out on my 1938 Model "D" and rather than replacing it with one of those clip-on pads, I have a NOS pulley brake with lining, and would rather install it. I don't have a service manual, so can someone describe the process. I don't want to interfere with anything I shouldn't mess with.

Kenny, are you talking about the entire pulley brake arm with brake pad?.. If so, just release the clutch, then remove the fork shaft to clutch hand lever rod pivot pin, then remove the 4 bolts holding the fork bearing [4 bolt oblong front cover] on the front of the 1st reduction cover, then pull the fork bearing cover off the reduction cover, then pull the cotter pin from the fork shaft, then pull the fork shaft from the 4 bolt bearing.. At that time the brake arm will come right off.. Just reverse the procedure to install everything making sure the clutch fork engages the clutch pulley operating sleeve slot.. You might want look closely at the clutch fork shaft to fork position before removal so you reinstall in the same orientation.. It's a lot easier than it sounds..

Yes, I was talking about the entire pulley brake arm. I really appreciate the technical help and advice you provide on this forum. So, when are you going to write a Technical Service Manual, a real "How-To" manual for us Model D folks?
