My facings are riveted:

Last I knew, the clutch disks (for an 80-820) were still avaliable, part number R669R, for $16.25 a piece.

Robert:

When I rebuilt my pony about a years and a half ago, the lings and rivets were still available from Deere. I used the rivets on mine.

If you would like a bit of extra insurance, you can use a bit of urethane glue (the kind that woodworkers use) or Scotch-Weld in addition to rivets. I have used this on the main clutch facings on some that de-bonded on mine and they have been holding up very well.

If you do use glue, make sure both surfaces are clean, and scuff the steel surface with some 150 grit sand paper, and clamp the assembly firmly, as the glue will expand as it cures. Of course if you apply glue, then rivet right away, the rivets will do all the clamping.

Robert, the ones I have seen have had rivets.. I do suppose there could have been some bonded clutch disks around.. Deere did service just the linings & rivets but not sure if they are still available..

Robert:

I did some checking in the book and on JDParts.com.

First, I don't think you ever mentioned what model tractor we're talking about. The reason to know is, there was a change from the rivetted clutch hub unit to another number at the 730-830 model break. I'm curious if that unit might have been a bonded one and not rivetted since no individual facings or rivets are called out for it.

Anyway, I found price and availability on all the differing parts as well as complete units.

Here's what I have:

Facing (for up to 7299999 & 8299999) was R 669 R, now R90224 $20.38
Rivet D 1761 R $.19 ea
Complete unit old number AR546R, new number RE 229788 $213.25
Complete one piece unit old number AR20327R, new number RE 229788 $213.25

Unless the "bonded" type unit is really different in design, I'm guessing that you could drill the hub for the rivets and mount the R90224 facings on there. Somewhere around here I have the thickness of the steel plate of the clutch hub, and that would be your only concern (you don't want the stck up to get too thick). I'm thinking the plate was around .150" or so.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Frank
