My tractor runs fine when under load but the governor seems to be searching when not loaded or close to idle. At time it will give a small backfire or stumble. I am thinking it is the governor. How do I adjust or, am I on the wrong track? Thanks for the help.

Keith, I have had lots of Dubuques with the "surging" problem, and not once have I found it to be a govenor problem. Not saying its not possible, but usually its the idle circuit in the carb. I would give the carb. a good cleaning and run a wire through all the tiny passages, also remove the main jet (brass tube sticking up) it has several tiny holes running the length of it. Or if you have access to a known good carb. maybe try it.

Wayne, Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I did go through the carb with new main jet etc. However, If nothing else comes up I may revisit that area and make sure that everything is squeaky clean. K
