Anyone know where I can get a parts diagram or operations manual for a John Deere 52 trailer plow? Also, need a source for parts, if such a place exist.

Last, anyone know when these were produced?

Joe Lee,I have a #52 that I bought out of scrap yard for parts.Both front wheels had been torched off but it still has alot of parts.What do you need?Jim B

I just had it delivered to my Dad's place over the weekend. I won't get to see it until this weekend but I know it has some broken and missing parts, including one of the lift arms. Please send me your email address and I will get back with you next week.

Bob gave you some good info, but I will give some more. The parts catalog is PC-253. The operators manual is no longer available. I have not found one yet (3 years). Good luck finding one. On the open type lift clutch, Bob is wrong, it was used up to 1944. There was an overlap of the open and closed clutches. The closed did come out in 41. According to the parts catalog.

Will, You bring up some good points and it does look like my info about the open/enclosed clutch was wrong, but by the same token look in the parts book and note parts for the enclosed clutch (for instance the land wheel box) are shown as 1950 on. This is 3 years after production ceased. I can't verify it yet, but why would John Deere make both styles at the same time? I think they continued to improve parts for the open clutch after enclosed clutch was current. I sure would be interested in your thoughts on this, I'm starting to dig into it now. I have seen several 52 op manuals around, I'd be glad to give you a shout next time one comes up. Or contact Robert (above). Bob, about the "land wheel box" I thought it might be a misprint at first, but then why would part number 14 (no name of the part, but I will call it "dog backing plate") be -41,41-50, and 50-on like the "land wheel box" I have been told that the enclosed clutch is the same as the one used on the 44 plow. One page for both manuals? I don't have a parts book for the 44 plow. So I can't compare.

The overlap of the open and closed? Stubborn farmers? The open clutch has worked so well, farmers didn't want to see change? Corn binders were made into the 50's, but the ear picker was out awhile before that. Just an idea.

Yes, if you find a manual for the 52 plow, let me know. Does that manual cover the 51 plow also? I need one for that one too. Have a 51 and 52 plow.

Joe Lee, You can get a parts catalog for the #51 and 52 plows from John Deere (800 522-7448) which will show how most parts go together, you can likely find an Op man on ebay or from some literature dealer or swap meet. The #52 plow was built from 1934 -1947. Before 1940 they had an open type lift clutch and later used the enclosed clutch. Probably most left the factory on steel wheels but rubber tires were available after 1937, and many were cut off and had rubber tire rims welded on. Parts are where you find them, swap meets and salvage yards as well as collectors, half the fun is stalking parts. Good luck.
