JD 60 horizontal muffler/exhaust pipe

I just got my uncle's 60 running, he bought it new in '53. It has a horizontal muffler and a under chassis exhaust pipe. I have not seen another like it, can't find them either. There is no hole in the hood for a vertical. Any suggestions?

The underneath exhaust was on option for the '60'. I have one for my '70'D. Check up top and see if there isn't a square "rain cap" bolted on where the verticle muffler would normally be mounted. That's the way they were normally set up. I've never seen a hood that did not have the square hole punched for the (conventional) muffler.
