here is one for all you jd experts, what is the correct lineage of the jd 2 cyl. gp-a-60-620-630
or gp-a-70-720-730, and also is this one correct
ar-r-80-820-830, what would be the correct tractors in these lines in new gen tractors 1010-1020 up to the new gen 20 ie. 4020and 3020 I have a few books but they all stop at the 2 cyl or begin at the new gen. I have a report to do for my college english class and i want to get it right

#1 should be the front or where the fan blades are. I also think new rod bolts are recommended on those. The main inserts can usually be slipped in by loosening all the caps letting the crank drop down just a little then remove one cap at a time and I have used things like popsickle sticks,or a plastic putty knife, so as not to damage the crank ,to push on the edge of the bearing that doesn't have the tang sticking out of it and roll it out and then lube the new shell and roll it in. I have seen a tool made to slip into the oil hole and it sticks up letting you roll them out Kent Moore sells them to GM dealers some books show you how to make one with a cotter pin. I have had good luck poking them out and then grabbing them with my fingers and rolling them around and out.

JDvan correctly cites the Two Cylinder article and the lineage that John Deere intended. Much of the confusion in the bridging to the New Generation comes from the John Deere advertising campaign that compared the 1010 to the 530 and smaller tractors, the 2010 to the 630, the 3010 to the 730, and the 4010 to the 830.

Ok, I found the 2 Cylinder magazine article and my guess was right. Here it is again:

330(22hp),, no equivalent NG at first

H, M, 40, 420, 430(30hp), 1010(35hp), 1020..

C, GP, US B, B, 50, 520, 530(39hp), 2010(45hp), 2020,,

C, GP, US A, A, 60, 620, 630(50hp), 3010(55hp), 3020,,

C, GP, US G, G, 70, 720, 730(60hp), 4010(80hp), 4020,,

D, R, 80, 820, 830(75hp), 5010(117hp), 5020,,

It is more like this:

C, GP, US B, B, 50, 520, 530 - Guess 2010, 2020,,
C, GP, US A, A, 60, 620, 630 - Guess 3010, 3020,,
C, GP, US G, G, 70, 720, 730 - Guess 4010, 4020,,
D, R, 80, 820, 830 - Guess 5010, 5020,,

Then there was the: M, 40, 420, 430 progression which I guess would head toward the 1010, 1020..

Two Cylinder magazine did a full progression into the New Generation a few months ago but I am unable to find my copy at the moment.
