I have been told that the fans on older tractors were painted yellow. What part of the fan was yellow, all of it including the hub or just the fins? I did look for this in the archives, but did not find anything.
Thanks Much for the information.
John

I guarantee that, no matter which color you paint it, someone will say, "The fan should be the other color". It happened to me at a show - I was away from the tractor and came back to find a note with those words on it. The handwriting was that of my best friend, who had been my chief mechanic and had argued with me about that subject from day one.

We all had a good laugh over that one.

John, you have brought up a good question... I can add a little & maybe confuse you more.
~I have done a little research on the tractors that I have restored so I can get the fan color as close as possible to what it should have been [at least I think]..
~A lot depends on where the tractor was built, what year it is & how fast the line was running.
~Basically here is what I can say...Most unstyled fans were painted green with the back of each blade receiving a brush stroke or two of yellow sometime during the build process [after the paint process]. Here's the kicker, most REPLACMENT fans were all yellow. Seeing as most of the old Deere 2-cylinder tractors have a lot of hours on them there is a good chance a good many of them have a replacement fan on them. ~I wish Duane would comment here as he has a lot of build data & service bulletins...

As the tractors were going down the line after it was painted, a man stood there and painted the blades facing towards the rear of the tractor. It was done as a safety measure.

The blades on my 44B were yellow from the factory. I found the color under green that was covering it from a mid 60's dealership paint job. I painted the back of the fan blades, hub, and short piece of the shaft yellow. I painted the front of the blades green. Just my choice.
