I was given a John Deere plow and I am trying to identify it. You can still make out John Deere in the frame and the JD symbol cast into some of the parts. I have attached a picture. Any help on what model of plow and what kind of John Deere tractor this will fit would be appreciated. I was hoping to sell it to someone with a tractor it was designed for or trade it for a 3 pt 2-12/14 plow to pull behind my Allis Chalmers d-10. Short of that does anyone have any suggestgions on how I could cut this up to fit a standard 3 pt?

Any help will be appreciated.

John,

It depends on where you live in Washington, but I have a good friend in Surrey, B.C. who has an M and would most likely love to have that plow. He has ten acres that he wants to get cleared and has a '48 M that it would fit right on.

Please contact me by e-mail if you have any interest in getting in touch with him.

Thanks,

John,

Both Larry and Dan are on the right track. A piece of literature I have tells me the plow is either a M1A (for the 'M' tractor) or an MT1A (for, what else?, the 'MT' tractor). The picture of is looks exactly like the one you have.

Thanks Stan,
I appreciate the help. I know nothing about JD tractors and was lost when this showed up. Is there JD club that I can contact to see if someone is interested in this plow. I really would like to see it go to someone who could put it with a tractor either for work or show. Again thanks for the help.

There are a couple of guys who post on here from northwest Washington - maybe one of them can help you find a club. In the meantime, I do know there is an active tractor collecting group in that area. Someone at Barnett Implement Co. in Chehalis should be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes, you have a plow for the M or MT. I believe it is called an MT-1. You should be able to sell or trade it and get a 3 pt plow as there a lot of M collectors. I wouldn't cut it up to modify.

Thanks Larry,
I appreciate the help. At least I know what if fits now. Do you know if this plow is very rare. You wouldn't happen to know an approximate value. I really would like to see it go to someone who could put it with a tractor either for work or show.
I just bought my first tractor, my wifes Grandfather's AC, and really know nothing about tractors new or old. If you want to see my pride an joy, click on the link below. It's not much but I plan on restoring it original and restarting the old farm.
Again thanks for the help.

Not sure of the model number but think it is the one for the M MT. Believe that front spike goes into a frame setup that hangs from the bottom in front of the platform. Looks like it might have been modified for a 3 point if I am seeing the picture right.

Dan,
Thanks for the info. I now know more than I did before. I apologize for the picture. The lighting is poor and I am a poor photographer. There have been no modifications that I can tell to the plow. There is a plate that rides on a shaft at the front of the plow. It must hook to the tractor's hydraulic lift system somehow since there is no wheels or other method of picking up the plow that I can see.

Saw one of these mounted at a show a while back. I have an MT and always wanted one but haven't found it. Thought it would be a great garden plower. The plate you mention bolts to the lift setup on the MT. It is a roung shaft on 2 arms with a piece welded on the front that Implements bolt to or a drawbar piece can bolt to. There is a frame setup that hooks just ahead of the operator platform. You might look to see if that part is still there also.

Dan,
I don't have the tractor, just the plow. There are a couple things wired onto the plow but I think they are just the pins for attaching it to the lift setup you described. I really know nothing about John Deere tractors and was really hoping to find someone who wanted a plow that fit thier tractor. If you know anyone who would be interested in this plow, please pass this on. I would make them a sweet deal. I just knew it was an old plow and I would like to see it go to someone that wanted it rather than see it cut up. The plow is in the northwest so it may be out of the way. Now that I know what it is I can list it in YTMAG's classified ads. Maybe I can make some John Deere collectors day. Thanks everyone who responded for all your help figuring out what I have.

John
