Last night I went to the garage to work on my '37 A. Smelled some gas. Didn't think to much of it untill I noticed gas dripping from the rear of the tank. The seam was leaking on the main fuel tank just below the the gas tank. I will pull the tank tomarrow to get a better look. What is the best was to fix this problem? I thought maybe JB Weld might work. Need your help. Thanks so much,
John

John, that is a somewhat common problem on the old Deere fuel tanks. It seems that long term storage of some fuels tends to eat the solder out of the tank seam joints as well as at the tank fittings.
~JB weld isn't a good repair for a leak at that area due to the flexing of the tank & the inability of getting the JB weld into & between the tank halfs.
~Your best bet is to clean the tank out, then PURGE IT WITH A COMMERSIAL TANK PURGING FLUID to remove ALL the fuel fumes from ALL the tank seams & hidden areas then fill it 3/4 full of water with the leaking tank seam facing up, then re-solder it. While its all cleaned & prepped it wouldnt hurt to re-solder the lower tank outlet fitting as it probably isnt far behind.
~Your others alternatives are to either take the tank to a fuel tank repair place & have them repair it or clean it out inside then acid etch it & use a product like Kreem tank sealer.
