I have an older I/T manual, and find that it is not very detailed when it comes to directions. Mine also covers several different models (A,B, and G, I believe). On the illustrated break-downs, they'll show you one model (like for a G) and tell you something like "the A is similar".
I guess what I'm saying is that it is helpful, but will not make you a mechanic. I also have a parts manual for my A, which is a lot better as for clarity on illustrated parts break downs.
Not sure this is at all helpful, just a bit of a guide, and you will have to decide for yourself what you need in terms of directions.

get a b service manual and the i/t manual. use the b manual for the teardown and assembly and use the i/t manual for your specs. the tractors are almost identical

John Deere never published a service manual for the A (or G??) They did publish one for the B, for which I presume a reprint is available from John Deere. I have seen the originals for the Model B for sale on E-Bay, and have a vague recollection of prices ranging from $80 - $150. The latter may have been in an original binder. There have also been orginals of the 60 manual for sale on E-Bay. I would not attempt any serious work on a two cylinder without a service and a parts manual or the assistance of a trained two cylinder mechanic.
