We have been diagnosing a 4020 powershift. The pressure checks ok (about 145) the trans is slow to engage in all gearshifts, when upshifting. You can adjust the accumilator pressure on the left side of the tractor (control valve) This seems to solve the upshift problem. But when down shifting the tractor really jerks from 5-4 The long time owner says it has not always felt so harsh. There is another shift timing valve on the bottom of the control valve mentioned in the repair manual, but there is no adjustment procedure listed for it. does any one know about this adjustment or could shed insite on our problem? (the tractor pulls in all gears fine, just shifts harshly)

I have learned quite a bit since my post. the adjustment on the side is no longer the shift speed adjustment on this model as my book indicated. this adjustment is for one way cylinder return operation. the correct adjustment is turned all the way in except when using one way cylinders. Next my pressure was at a min 140 acording to my book. old timer, John Deere mechanics tell me that it must maintain 150 at operating temperature 80 degrees above ambient temp. I adjusted that on the bottom of the control valve with shimms and my problems seem to have dissappeared.. Thanks.. Dennis
