I have a 1938 unstlyed model g and when not under a load the governer lever connecting to the throttle goes back and forth producing a hit and miss sound ,not a steady hit.. Is this lever worn perhaps in the governer. or is it normal.

Pat I would check the linkage for proper adjustment first. The throttle rod from carb to govenor should be half a hole off in the closed position(I'm doing this from memory could be reverse),if this doesn't cure the hunting of govenor, you will have to inspect govenor bearings, probabley the easiest way is to remove gov.housing clean throughly and diassemble, there is a bearing on mag. end of shaft that will have to be pressed of and back on,get bearings in hand before you diassemble .hope this helps Gman
