300B Backhoe hydraulic question

The rubber hose elbow that goes from the hydraulic oil tank down into the top of the oil cooler burst while I was operating the backhoe. It looks like a pressure related blow out. The hose is 3 months old right from Deere (not a coolant hose or something else) It's classified as a low pressure line in the deere hydraulic diagram and it should be since it is connected by hose clamps. Could it have been just a weak hose? Could high pressure have "leaked" from the main pump into this circuit and blown it out? The supply line from the pump up to the tank didn't blow. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

John

is it a 3/4" L shaped hose? mannheim tractors have a reinforced hose for this point. part # L35843. should fix the problem. btw the pressure in this area is limited by a cooler relief valve.

Yes, It is the 3/4" L shaped hose (90 degree bend.) Is this a common problem or does it probably mean there is a problem in a relief valve, etc.? Where can you get the reinforced hose? Thanks for the response.

it is not common but it happens. i suppose you can get this hose at any jd pars counter. this hose (L35843) replaces hose # T22598 in many applications, it is thicker and includes reinforcing wires between the layers.
david
btw, if the bottom hose of the cooler # is T24760, then there is a reinforced hose for this place also jd# L35843.

Again, Thanks. I got the reinforced hose from my Deere dealer - It's much stronger than the stock hose. For the bottom hose they sold me 17" of reinforced hose, not preformed - not a surprise because the bottom hose has just very slight bends. I put the upper one on and the machine worked well enough to drive it back to the garage for it's steam bath to remove all the sprayed oil - what a mess!! At least it didn't blow right out which would have indicated a definite pressure control problem.

Against the advice of the dealer I went ahead and replaced a similar 'low pressure' return hose in the power steering setup of a 4630 because it kept blowing up. Dealer suggested we replace the $$$$ hydralic steering unit - price for high pressure hose was a buck 92. Price of 17 gallons of lost hydralic oil was never recovered. Several years later and still no problems. I'd just get high pressure hose in there and when the pump or valves mess up for good, then work on those. Something temporary causes exessive pressure. As long as it's still temporary, you are good to go providing you don't blow your hose.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I'm just worried because it was almost a brand new hose that blew out.

Same here. Three standard replacements all blew about a month apart till I put in the wire backed hi pressure hydralic hose. Total gallons of oil lost would float a boat.
