My '48 B did the same thing a couple of months ago. My pump is the older style that vents through the fanshaft tube. Started spraying oil all over the place! If it is the vane type of pump, usually it is because one or both of the springs in there are broken, causing the pump to malfunction. This lets the oil pump right on into the air breather. You could try to loosen the oil filler cap and run it for a bit to see if your crankcase is being pressurized, but if the problem persists, it is probably the crankcase vent pump.

520-LP, you didn't give a tractor year but the problem is more than likely the same [the pumps are just a little different].
~The usual problem is a failed [or failing] vent pump. Once that pump quits pumping that system fill with oil & puts oil into the intake pipe..

I assume you are talking about the tube that returns to the intake side of the carburetor. Then I would think significant positive pressure is building inside the crankcase and that leads one to the pistons rings being badly worn.
