Can anyone tell me anything about my JD AR s# 257255. Also how many unstyled AR's were built and how many with the allfuel tank or were they all allfuel.

Thanks

Aaron, I'm no expert, but the reference info that I have explains that the AR, AO and AI serial numbers were intermixed so when I make reference to "AR" it also applies to AOs and AIs. The first of the "early" unstyled ARs (s/n 250000) was built in April 1935. Production of the "early" unstyled ARs continued until Oct. 1940. Production of the "late" unstyled AR began in Nov. 1940 with s/n 260001 and continued until production of unstyled ARs ended in June 1949. Styled AR production began in June 1949 through June 1953 (s/n 272000 through 284074).

Over this 1935-1949 time period, numerous serial number plates were unused so the actual total production was 17,394 unstyled ARs and 2,716 unstyled AOs. AIs are not included in these totals. Your AR appears to have been built in early 1939.

I don't know about your reference to an "all fuel" tank. It appears to me that only one fuel tank (p/n AA599R) was used from the first ARs up into April 1940. Same appears to hold true for the manifold - p/n A1003R was used from 1935 until at least 1940. From s/n 250000 until 1940 only one carburator is listed - a Marvel-Schebler DLTX-19 (JD p/n AA580R). Your AR would have had this carb as cast iron, not bronze as was used on some earlier ARs.

That's about all I can tell you, hope that it helps. Incidentally, my AR is s/n 262116 built in 1942. John in OH
