I recently purchased a JD 430 LP tractor and the owner had a 300 gallon propane tank with a hose coming from the bottom, that he used to fill the tank on the tractor. On the end of the hose is a valve, painted JD Green, made by Squibb Pitzer Dallas. Does anyone know if this accessory (valve) was sold by John Deere? It is part cast and part brass with a knurled tightening ring to attach to the tractor tank. Is this piece rare?

John, I have an Lp 420 and the parts and owners manuals. They do not show a fill hose from Deere. I have a fill hose that was made up by an LP company. In the olden days an LP dealer would make up hoses for farmers to use their home storage tank to refill the tractor from. I think nowadays most Lp companys will not make up the hoses. I have even been told by one local company that they will not fill my tractor from thier truck, however another company nearby said they would. Also your tractor will have a small fitting in the line in front of the strainer, to use in an emergency, you can hook a small portable tank to this fitting, to get you to the house if you ran out of gas. As to the line you have, I would not think of it as (rare) or worth a lot of money, likely it was made up by some local lp dealer. By the way, your tractor itself is pretty rare, think they only built 125 of those.
