I pulled an old JD Hydraulic cylinder out of my shed, it said 2 1/2 RC 1501 on it. It appears to be the same hydraulic cylinder that is shown in my 43 B manual. Can anyone tell me anything about it, is it worth fixing? I believe it was leaking when we put it in the shed, it was covered with oil so it isn't rusty. Thanks.

Thanks guys!!! I am going to keep it and fix it up. I set it up for one way operation today and will try it to see what it needs. The one part I know that it needs is the push pin that locks the attaching pins in (Had to drill one out), is it available or will I have to get one made?

The seals are avaiable from McMaster Carr of Chicago. I got some seals at a very reasonable cost from them. BUT what can be done with a pitted piston? Anyone rebuild the piston at a fair price?

I just did my B cylinder. I got the seals and such fronm a local Deere dealer. They do not come as a kit any more. They ordered them piece by piece. The cost was a bit over $60.00

Each of teh letter tractors had different cylinders, B, A, G, they all look about the same with the adjustable stop. I have one from an A I used on a mower for a number of years. It leaks down badly. I checked on seals and cups at JD, some are still available but spendy. You might find similar ones at a hydraulic supply. They are a good cylinder. If you want authenticity they are neat, if it is to use you can probably buy a new one for what it will cost you to repair it.

Yes, the cylinder is for a JD B. It is worth something to the right person. I just bought new seals for $20.00 and fixed mine myself. They are not available from Deere any more. If you don't want to use it, I would be interested in buying it from you. Please let me know. Thanks very much,

Mark

Where did you get your seals? Was it leaking oil out or just leaking down?

Dan years ago[like 30] I had a cylinder for a B that won't hold a #5 mower up I took the plunger out and cut a set of heavy leather washers like what a shoe shop would half sole a shoe with for it worked fine. they are still in it.
