I have a JD1530 and I am trying to determine the PTO speed. It seem that the speed of the PTO is not enought to sping the brush hog fast enough to make it cut well. I can take the brish hog and put it on my other tractor, Ford 861, and it cuts much better. The PTO speed seems to be faster on the Ford. Any ideas?

standard pto speed is 540 rpm at rated engine speed. most tractor engine can run at faster then rated speed with low load thus pto shaft speed is relalively higher. that's the zone that can differ betweden tractors (different rpm ranges and pto rpm's). of course there can be a problem with the 1530 (power loss, limited rpm or slipping pto clutch)

The 1530 has a 540 rpm pto. Is the tractor making full engine rpm, should be around 1950-2000rpm by the tack on the dash to make full pto speed.
