I am getting fuel in the crankcase of a 1957 720 Diesel. While investigating injector lines for leakage, I noticed alot of fluid squirting out from behind the pumps when running. Is this all oil or could the injector pumps be leaking that much? It seems to gain quite alot on the oil level.

720Deere:

There is a fair amount of oil that is flipped around in the pump compartment by the cam and pump action. Look carefully to be sure it is not fuel. A fuel leak will generally wash the black sulfur deposits away helping to reveal itself. Make sure you examine the lines under the valve cover. Look for spraying there. Don't look for leaks with your finger ! The pressure is so great that it can inject the fuel directly into your skin, or at least tear it badly.

Sometimes if you have a loose injector line or a crack, it will cause a miss in your engine. If you can't find a leak, loosen one injector line until it misses, then tighten it up. See if it runs better than before. Do the same for the other side. You might detect that it begins to run smoother. That might have been your leak.

I had one where the line nut on the #2 injector had come loose and caused the oil to be fuel diluted. Snugged it up and the problem went away.
