Started on this about 6 wk ago and got several good ideas. Tried to repair the head and to fabricate a spring without much success. Decided to replace the whole works either from a salvage yard or from Deere. Deere advised me that the spring is not available so back to square one.

The ser.#of the B is 206 101 and the part #is 2304R and just below this #is D-6. On my post the last part of June "ChuckW" said he may have what I need. If you still have this please let me know. If any of you other people have any ideas send them along---like the name and location of some salvage yards.
Mr. Clooney, you have been correct in every respect-#1--This IS a real difficult problem #2 My hands are bloody and bruised #3 It would be better if I was 16 and ambidextrous. It would have been even more correct had you mentioned that it would be virtually impossible if you are old and have short arms like Alley Oop. Thanks to all of you fine folks and God Bless.

Joe: 2 cylinder parts should have items like this. It is hard to work on such close quarters. I always used bent wrenches and cut off wrenches. As I noted the unit is bolted to the housing with 3 bolts and is connected with a slip type coupling and I believe a screw in type fitting. I don't believe you would need to remove the canister. I have a broken unit has the internal items however the top housing was broken by an aggressive owner. When those lower oil covers are tightened, they really just need to be snugged up as all you're holding is about 16 pounds pressure. It has a nut that misleads everyone into high torque. If I were close I'd give you some hand on instructions, however if you would go to a bone yard you should be able to see all the proper dissambly which should make you job easier. Be sure to pull your mag wire while you have a hand or arm in the cranshaft cavity.

on the late production removal of crank can make it easier and redo the lower end as well

I think I contacted you that I *might* have a NOS spring for you. I still have not found them, seems I had a bundle of them.
