I have been told a JD 301A is the same as a JD 2040 except for color. I know the 301A is an industrial tractor. I would like to know where to find an operators manual.

thanks John

They have much in common. However the yellow tractor may have as an option a different hydraulic pump.( more GPM) Also the front axle options on the yellow machine are much heavier. There may be other differences but these are the ones I`m aware of.

thanks John. The 301A has the lift arms on the back that are controlled with a handle similar to a Ford. It does not have any external hydraulic connections. I was wondering if it is possible to add this to the tractor and also if the rear end fluid, hydraulic fluid, and transmission fluid are all the same and use the same reservoir. I am not sure how you check the rear end fluid level. My 4020 has a dip stick, but I can find one on the 301A.
thanks,
John

There should be a small dipstick in front of the axle on, I believe, the right side. Hydraulic and transmission oil are combined. You can order a manual from the Deere web site.

The manuals currently can not be ordered on this site. If anyone knows where I can get a manual I would appreciate it. If I can't find a 301A manual would a 2040 manual be about the same?

thanks John
