I looked at 2 AR's both 38 models only 231 #'s apart, one on steel the other all 4 rubber with spokes. My question, Is it correct to be this way, the one on steel has what I would call a belt brake with only one pedal and it would be by your left foot, but there is a hole on the right side for a pedal, but it appears that ther would be no way to hook it up. The one on rubber has 2 brake pedals, and what I would call the "normal" brake system. Is this right?? or whats the deal?? Would the one on rubber be an AO?? Thanks KS

I have a 1936 AO with an upright breather and exhaust, like an AR. There was a notice to dealers I have seen a couple of times that said if the customer wanted an AR with turning brakes, order and AO with an upright breather and exhaust attachment. In the archives records, the one with turning brakes should be listed as an AO, and the one without and AR, or at least that's how it worked in the early days.

The only way you are going to be sure whether either of them shipped as an AO will be to go to Archives and have them do a serial number search. The cost is $15.00 per serial number.

The unstyled AR could be ordered with differential brakes so the brakes do not give a good indication of whether it is an AO or AR. The early unstyled AO (35 & 36) came with differential brakes. the Unstyled AR normally had the single brake but the differential brakes were an option.

Is it normal then for the tractor with the single brake to still have the cut-out in the floor for the other brake pedal?

While the platform went throught several changes over the life of the unstyled AR. The holes where always on both sides of the platform.
