I have a 1963 JD 2010. All the odd gears work fine, as do all the reverse gears. When I put it into any of the even gears(2,4,6,8) It likes to grind a bit and vibrate the shifter. Is the linkage out of adjustment or do I have other problems. It is not noisy in any of the working gears. Any help is appreciated!

I have a 2010 with the same problem. I removed the tran top cover and discovered the speed change gears have a cam type selector that moves the shift collars. The shift collar that controls the even gears is located in the rear position. When shifted to the even gear in any range it pops back off the gear shaft. It appears on my tractor that the cams have enough wear that it allows the shift collar to slip backwards enough to disengauge the even number gears. I have taken a steel bar and wedged it between the case and the shift cam and it held the shift collar in place with out jumping out of gear. I actually started the tractor and let the cluth out very slowly and drove it around the yard, but I had to ride the clutch to keeep from throwing out the oil in the tranny. I do not know if it is possible to adjust this out. I don't think there is a adjucstment for this issue. If there is somebody let me know. I will include a link to a site that has a blow up of the tranny.

Thanks Rick
