I bought my 2510 row crop deisel synchro range 2 years ago and it had had charging trouble for years. My grandfather always thought that it was because it wasn't used enough. When I bought it after he passed away, I decided to get this fixed. I got the starter and alternator tested and found that the alternator needed a rebuild. I got that fixed and a new set of batteries and it had been working fine for a year and a half and last week, the starter was turning slow but still started it. I have had the alternator and starter checked and they are fine. Could my batteries be no good after only 2 years or is there another component I need to get checked? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help

If the alternator and starter checked okay as you say and the battery is fully charged, the next things I would suspect are loose, carboned, or corroded battery or starter or ground cable ends or connectiions. First, remove, clean and wire brush then re tighten ALL battery and starter and ground cables and connections plus any solenoid or starter switch connections. The batterys could be bad as you asked, but a load test would be the correct way to check that. Check that the electrolyte levels in each cell are above the plates and add distilled water or acid as required and be sure NO cells have a gray or milky appearance and a hydromoter shows them at a state of 1.280 if fully charged. If the connections are all okay and the battery passes a load test and any switch or solenoid is okay (you might jump by pass around a solenoid and see if she cranks faster and if so, the solenoid or switch may be resistive or carboned inside) but the starter still gets hot or drags and especially if it has that burned electrical smell, then it could still be bad. You might try a different battery or set of batterys to see if that improves performance and if so, the batterys may be bad even if not very old. Good Luck n let me know.

i had a charging and starting when hot problem with my 2510 gas. put diesel engine in it and a fresh alt. and still had the same problem, and added a second batt. problem was solved when i replaced the batt. cables, that ended the slow start, no start when hot and the charging problems. after i replaced them i cut them open and they were really green on the inside, but looked great on the outside, good luck,, mike
