the number series tractors use motor oil for 1st reduction but since there is a pto shaft coming out of the side of the tractor the number series use the transmission gear and there is a double oil seal at the first reduction gear.

Bill, the 1st reduction gear lube oil comes from the trans on a 630. However there is little left in there at all times due to a well in the 1st reduction cover bottom.

Tye, yes the 50 is the same. ~Most of the LETTERED series [excluding the H & Dubuque's] used the engine from the engine for 1st reduction gear lube.
~Most of the NUMBERED series [excluding the Dubuque's] used trans gear oil from the trans to lube the 1st reduction gears.
