Some questions on a 3 point hitch to fit a 50.
Will the 800 or 801 hitch fit the 50? Will someone please tell me what is the best hitch for a 50? Where can I go on the internet to view these hitches? Thanks fellas. I'm having a great summer with my first JD.

It will be cheaper, faster and more satisfaction to find a 520/530 equiped with a complete and proper three point hitch. If you want to stay with a two cylinder?

There are 3 different versions of the 800 series hitch that will fit your 50. The 800, 800a and the 801. The 800 series hitches became available as dealer add-ons in late 1953, the 800a, became available in early 1955 and in late 1955 the 801 was released. Typically the 801 is the most desireable as it has the most features as an attempt was made to add traction control through mechanical leverage, although it has been reported that it really didn't work all that well. Any of the three versions of the hitch will work just fine on your 50. Note: the 50 hydraulics do not have load and depth control features like the later 520 so a gauge wheel will be required on implements such as an 810 or 812 plow. Also note that originally the 800 series hitches required a special masthead on the implement to be compatible with the evener bar between the two upper arms. These Mastheads are getting harder and harder to find and are a getting a bit expensive. However, an 800 series hitch can be used directly with a conventional three point implement by removing the evener bar and mounting each top arm on the outside of the normal top link connection point on the implement and running a longer high grade pin through the top link connection point. Works just fine. No modification to the hitch is necessary. I have pictures of all the various 800 series hitches and mastheads and the referenced three point hook up at:

Are those 812 3 pt hitch plows any good? Reason for asking, my father got one maybe 20 years ago (still have it)and we never used it. Are there any sheer bolts or anything that gives if you hook a rock?

Both of my plows, the 810a and the 812a have the trip bottoms. I think JD used the desingnation suffix of "a" to designate the trip versions. I haven't looked at the manual recently. I have plowed with both plows and they are very good plows. Heavy duty.

I'm looking for a three bottom version of one of these.
