I am new to this forum but I found ya and have couple of questions for you who are familiar with the "A" JD. I'm working on this for a neighbor and his problem is he has to add a couple quarts of oil to the powertrol every 10 days and also the engine oil gets too full and he has to drain some out or the plugs start to foul. I've been looking for the connection here. Got the rear cover off and putting new seals and shaft in for the PTO. Then I have the cover off behind the clutch and found the first reduction gear loose on the trans input shaft. The question I have, is how does the oil keep from coming into the side cover from the transmission, there at the input shaft. There is no seal on this one or does the bearing have a seal on the transmission side that I can't see? Both the engine oil and the transmission oil were milky but the transmission oil was not over full. Any ideas here? Thanks
