Finished the mechanical and cleaning part of restoration on a Late Styled B. Started and drove it around the barn to the other shop, took the battery out, painted and put sheet metal back on. I now have current to the starter but it won't turn over, have no power coming out of starter to dash and nothing at alternator (12) volt system. Could I have a ground problem due to the paint? If not What? Stumped in Ohio

Dave, did you reinstall the battery using the same ground? [it was positive ground from the factory].
~If the battery is installed correctly [that probably isn't your problem anyhow]. The first thing I would suspect is the battery doesn't have a good ground at the ground cable attachment to the tractor due to all that new paint. MAKE SURE your battery ground cable has a good clean ground & the battery box bolts are allowing the battery box to ground to the tractor. [or run your ground cable directly to the seat attaching bolt]..
~If the ground cable is making good contact then more than likely your problem is with the wire that runs from the battery side of the ammeter to the starter battery cables stud [or sometimes it will run directly to the battery's non grounded post]. ~Seeing as it won't crank over I would suspect the paint isn't allowing a GOOD CLEAN GROUND of the ground cable..
~Last thing to check is that the battery is still holding a charge [try a battery charger on it]..

Dave if you think you have a groud problem. you could take a jumper cable and go from the ground post on your battery to a clean spot on the stater housing and see if that works you mite need to polish a spot on the stater housing to make good connection.

Thanks guys, you saved my bunns again. I went back out to the shop and ran a jumper from starter to battery and BINGO everything works. I'll fix the ground tomorrow. Couldn't do this without the help I get from all of you.

Thanks
Dave
