520 oil @ fan leak

My 520 leaks oil at the fan (by radiator) and it appears to be hydraulic oil. Apparantly it must travel up the fan shaft somehow. I have an I&T manual, but don't see anything right off that looks like it would let oil into the fan shaft. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Duben, does your tractor have power steering? If so it's the front power steering pump seal leaking. ~If it doesn't have power steering you have engine oil coming up the fan tube from the engine & leaking by the front fan bearing seals. OR, your crankcase vent pump has failed & is forcing oil up the fan tube..

Thanks for the reply - you're right, it is the power steering pump. I just bought the tractor and the former owner said he had the fan shaft replaced and it leaked every since. It appears to be leaking from behind the fan pulley. Does the pump have to come out of the tractor to replace the seal? Again, thanks for the help.

Duben, the pump has to come out, the fan removed & the pump taken apart to replace those seals.
~You might have a problem removing that pump. You are supposed to able to remove it without moving or pulling the radiator but I have found many that won't. Be sure to place a piece of tin or laminate between the fan & radiator while working or you risk poking a hole in the radiator. Also be sure to reach behind the pump as you are pulling it & keep the pump shaft coupling pushed to the rear as the pump is pulled forward... It is a real pain to reinstall if it pulls the rear one out.
~Once the pump is out you will have to remove the fan & take the pump apart. The original seals are a double seal but the Deere replacement seals are single seals so you will need [4] total 2 in the front & 2 in the rear with the lips facing away from each other. There is also a spacer [R-21720R] that goes between the rear seals. ~If it has been leaking for a while you will probably also need a new front bearing [JD-7142] as it is a sealed bearing & the leaking oil has probably washed all the grease out of the bearing. ~The pump halves are sealed together using a thin coat of sealer or shellac, there is no gasket between the pump halves..
~There is a little more to that pump seal replacement so ask plenty of questions if you decide to tackle the job.....
