These transmission are hard to remove noise. Just total rebuilt the transmission again. Had some noise in 2/5 gears. Now this is quiet but gear in 3 has whine. Inspected the gears and they looked great. I'm wondering if just reinstalling and slight change in alignment would make the whine and if I pull it hard, like discing it would wear in. Can't tell by looking at these gears as to their sounds.

thanks Clooney, just looked at some other gears I have and do not have any confidence they would be better. Also there was no whine in reverse. I wonder if there is any substance that would aid in reseating of gears. Maybe I'll hitch it up to a disc for a few hours.

Chuck, anytime you change a gear contact pattern or tooth contact depth you risk creating a gear noise. Even at their best those old Deere straight cut gears whine under either pull or coast. The longer they have been run at a specific wear pattern the more noise they can make when the contact pattern is changed. The 520-530 seems to be a prime noise maker, probably due to the higher engine RPM's & the hard work they have seen in their life. Those little 520's & 530's can pull quite a load for their weight & size. I have found a number of gears over the years that look good but are noisy, mainly due to the tooth crown being worn flat or even convex ..... .
