How do I hook up an engine analyzer to a 12 volt JD B coil to check RPMS at full throttle? It does have an alternator?. What should the maximum rpms be? Please help me Gentleman!

Randy, it depends on your analyzer & it's input connection. If it reads from the distributor side coil terminal you will probably need to use either a 2-cylinder, 2-cycle setting or use a 4 cylinder setting. If it reads off a plug wire you will again need a 2-cycle setting or divide the reading by 1/2. ~The old governor driven distributor Deere's fire every time the piston comes to TDC so there is one spark for every revolution, not every other revolution like most [not all though] modern engines. Most analyzers are set up to read 2 revolutions per 1 spark input. Again it depends on the input trigger of your analyzer..Some analyzers have an input trigger pulse setting so you can set them for the input trigger pulses per RPM.

Randy,

Will your analyzer pick up rpm's from a spark plug wire? "Fast idle" (full governed speed) should be 1250 rpm on the late B's.
