Thanks guys for solving my problem on the pedal situation. Now I am trying to fix that leak on the flywheel. I took the flywheel and cover behind it off. I did not see a seal or gasket behind the metal drum. Should there be one there? THere is a gasket on the cover I took off but nothing else that catches my attention. Also how much oil should the tractor hold. I drained the filter and oil out from underneath. But not much oil came out. Probably two quarts. Is there also another place to drain and where do I put the new oil at. I did find the dip stick though! lol Thanks for helping!

Well guys thanks again for the help. I changed the oil and ordered the gaskets for the flywheel today. My tractor didn't even have a cork gasket behind the splash wheel! They should be in the morning to John Deere. I'll let u guys know how I turn out putting it back together. Thanks again!

Your '45 (like mine) should hold nearly 9 quarts of oil. The drain plug is in the center of the engine section of the main case-- mine is a square pipe plug 1/2" I believe. There are two drain plugs in the bottom center of the main case---the one furthest forward is engine oil, the one in the back is transmission drain.
Hope this helps!
The way to tell when the crankcase is full is to back out the round part of the oil level check, and if oil drains, your good to go, if not, add until it does.

Mike, there is a flywheel spacer behind the flywheel [that's the piece with the slot in it that the flywheel seats against],,,,you can probably expect to find the cork seal inside the flywheel spacer leaking, you might also find the spacer housing oil drain back hole plugged, or at least partially plugged & there is also the possibility the main bearing clearance is excessive & flowing more oil out than the slinger can handle. None of the above are serious problems. The main bearing adjustment could be a problem if the plugs & bolts are rusted.
~Probably the place to start is to just install a new flywheel spacer cork seal & clean the oil drain back drain hole & see if that is all it takes to stop the leak [probably will].
~Don't forget to mark the flywheel to crankshaft before removal & make sure the flywheel spacer drive pin slot is in line with the flywheel pin on re-assembly, then center the spacer cover around the spacer with .003" feeler gage stock. Re-set the crankshaft end play to .005" to .010" when installing the flywheel.
~One more thing..... Be careful that flywheel is awfully heavy..... ..... ..... ~The oil goes in the pipe cap on top of the 1st reduction cover [over by the clutch pulley]....If I remember correctly the crankcase holds around 11 quarts...
