JD M Hydraulic Overflowing- hey Clooney, help

JD M hydraulic oil gushes out the fill tube when lowering the lift. When I got it I didn't use the lift but oil would overflow when going up hill. It looked to be foaming so I drained what I could and refilled with 10w ND. Now I want to use the lift and it gushes out big time. Could there be a baffle missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Joe in NY

As best I remember, the drain plug is low at the back of the unit- a square headed pipe plug. The level check is a petcock above the drainplug. Both are seen from the back of the tractor under the seat.

Joe, first thing is to check & set the hydraulic oil level with the rockshaft all the way down. It sounds like it might be over full..
~If that doesn't help suspect a pin hole air leak on the suction side of the system like a return line or pump seal. It could be sucking some air but have such a small leak that it doesn't leak oil.
~There really isn't a baffle in the fill tube area that could be missing.
