anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start to look here -- I have taken the front pump off and gone through it completely, no problems, the tractor works great, no noise, no shutter, problems of any kind, only the filter plugs with SUPER fine material -- it is magnetic however it is almost as fine as aluminum paint would be between the fingers? Could be brake? No other materials in the filter or screen... HELP I love this rig! 2130 4x4 JD w/cab a/c p/s all the goodies...

Your brakes are worn out. What you are seeing is very fine particles of the brake discs, pistons, and other shavings caused by metal to metal contact.DO NOT run the tractor until the brakes are repaired and the trans/ rear are flushed thoughly. Fill with new oil and put CLEANUP filters in the hydraulic system. You will probably find that it will take 4 or 5 filter replacements at 8-10 hr intervals until all of that silver paste is loosened up out of all the valves lines and fittings.Make sure you cycle all the hydraulic functions(3pt,independent pto, etc) many times to flush out any contamination. Make up a hydraulic hose with 2 male endsa on it and hook it into the remotes to flush them out.Dont hook the tractor to any equipment requiring remote cylinder operation until all the silver material stops showing up in the filters or you will pump contaminated oil in the cylinders and back into the tractor. When the silver stops showing up in the cleanup filters go back to your regular hydraulic filter.

I had my suspicions, just needed to hear it from another source, I really like this unit, but never having taken one apart, I did not know where that type of metal would come from, I knew it was not gears or thrust washers, it appeared to be ie clutch or band material as in automotive applications -- THANKS for the input, I will tear down the rear end and see what I get, your comments give me a warm and fuzzy feeling that you may be correct -- I will let you know!

with warm regards,

scott

The brakes rarely wear out. What usually happens is 90 or 140 weight gear lube has been added to the transmission/hydraulic system's Hy-Guard. Softens the friction material into mush in short order. Major item to look for on any used Deere utility tractor after someone serviced it without reading the manual.

by the way, the most common cause for brake material losing adhesion to the metal disks is water in the system!!!. always avoid water entry into the system.

i appreciate the heck out of the responses, and yes it was the brakes, however, I am miffed as to where I can find replacement disc's, JD has an attitude towards the "gray market", seems it wouldn't matter as long as it was the same brand, but alas, cut off your nose, despite....
does anyone have any lines on replacement brakes for this rig?
thank you folks
scott
