I have a 530 that the brake on the left side has a problem, sometimes it locks the leftwheel, part of the time the drum doesn't even turn. the brake mechanism works good (the pedal and pads that is) it seems that the shaft is not engaged fully inside the tractor. Is this a thrust washer problem or is it something else? Can this be fixed from the outside?

O'Neil, it sounds like maybe you have a broken brake pinion or missing pinion tooth on the L/H brake.
~You should pull the L/H brake assembly from the main case & look at the pinion gear [my guess is you will find a broken tooth or two]. Then with the brake assembly out of the tractor roll the tractor or jack the L/H wheel up & rotate it & inspect the bull gear for a missing or broken tooth [hopefully the bull gear is ok]....
