Clutch question

Greetings all;
I just finished an Engine refurbish on my '52 "A". I started the tractor yesterday for the first time in a while as being on active duty has kept me away from the project. When the clutch is disengaged, is it pretty quiet, but you can touch the cover of the clutch drum and feel a rubbing or tapping like sound. When the clutch is snapped in(I have it set for approximately 90 -110 pounds of application pressure at the lever to ensure solid engagement as I pull this tractor farm stock) it sounds like the clutch is rubbing inside some where, or maybe a bearing is starting to fail. I know the dust shield clears fine as there is no sign of contact on eithe piece. When I originally redid the unit, It was necessary to replace the crank and clutch drive disc, as the crank splines were destroyed. All of the floating discs are new inside. with the tractor secured, and the clutch disengaged, you can move the clutch drum back and forth a few thousandths. I checked crank end play with a dial, and I have .010" which I believe is correct. There is no knock from the case so I am confident that there is no rod issues. When I restored the unit before, I was told that the bearing and bushing were good, but now I have my doubts. Any and all advice would be much appreciated and thank for all of the support that you all give to this group.
Respectfully
The "Chief"

Chief, try the clutch with the cover removed. Sometimes those 3 adjusting bolts will contact the clutch cover.

~Your statement... "and the clutch disengaged, you can move the clutch drum back and forth a few thousandths"..... You should be able to move it more than a few thousandths, is it possible that the drive disk is pulled on too far & not allowing the inner disk to release completely? If the pulley contacts the R/H main bearing housing before the inner disk completely releases it will rub. Also make sure the pulley brake isn't adjusted too tight as that can limit pulley movement.

~About the only other thing I can think of is the drive gear on the back of the pulley is working it's way off the pulley hub & contacting the main bearing housing. [worth a look] ...

~Usually if it's a bearing going out or dry bearing the noise will be more of a growl & can be heard by spinning the clutch pulley with the engine off..

It sounds as if your bearing in the belt pulley is bad, as well as the bushing. They can be replaced with no problem. You have to pull the belt pulley to replace them.
