I bought a 720LP from a guy who builds pullers and, while he didn't say, I suspect the head on mine has been shaved. It pops really loud even with a new oval tone muffler and I need to shim the rocker assembly as the adjustment for the valve lash is completely taken up on one intake valve. I also don't have a lot of power, but I suspect that is either a fuel (regulator) or air intake issue. I agree with 520-LP, just surface it enough to make it flat and put it back together.

Your 720lp should have 55to 58 hp.lp parts are getting hard to find I wouldn't take off any more than nessary to get a flat surface as you might need to deck it again the most you could hope to gain would be 2 to 3hp .
