Found a B with a wide front. Asking price to me seems high, but then I've never seen a B with a wide front. Cannot seem to find a place where I might find out how rare this is.

Could someone point me to a website that would have this information. Thanks for the help.

What year is the 'B' you are looking at?

It is a '41. See my response to Jerry for other details if interested.

Rodney,

To see a photo of a factory wide front, go to the YT Tractor Photos and do a search for "John Deere BWH". The one that belongs to Bob Gauntt gives you a good look at a factory unit (the 'anteater' design). I'm not saying the tractor you are looking at is a BWH, which is quite unique, but that photo gives you something to compare to the tractor you are looking at.

Thanks for the information. Sadly my memory has faded too much to be sure if it is the same wide front or not...I'm thinking not, but...guess I need to get another look...and take a picture or two.

Would the serial number tag have BWH or just B? According to the photo you mentioned only 268 made over a number of years, so that would make the option more rare and probably would justify the price some....if it really is a BWH and not somebody trying to pawn it off as one.

Rodney,

I do not know if the tag will say 'BWH'. On my 1949 'BW', the tag does not say 'BW'. If the tractor has a factory wide front it might be either a 'BW' or 'BWH'. The 'BW' is not as scarce as the 'BWH', but certainly collectable still. The 'BWH' is a high-clearance tractor and would have longer rear axles and 40" (they might be 42", I can't say for sure) rear tires. Yes, you should take some photos and then share them on this board to get more assistance.

Rodney,

The factory wide front on a '41 Model B would be of the 'anteater' design with a round tube cast main axle housing.

Depends, if it's factory or after market.Factory somewhat rare, aftermarket not to uncommon I have a 49 B with aftermarket (Swartz I think) don't think it adds to value

I think it is a factory wide front. If I remember correctly it is adjustable too. I recall one of the I&T manuals indicating there were two kinds...fixed and adjustable.

Your B looks a lot nicer than the one I saw. The wide front is not the same. But my mind is starting to get foggy so can't recall for sure but think the wide front was square like. Kinda like a solid I beam. The steering links were adjusted by sliding a clamp on a steel shaft to get proper toe in.

It does not have a powr trol, is a '41 model. Hand start with Wico (don't know if I got spelling right) mag.

At least one brake is sticky, and whole tractor couldn't have ever seen a day inside after it left the factory. No major dents or tears in metal. Everything looks all original. Supposedly runs, but have not heard it yet nor have I talked to the owner.
