I bought a 3 point hitch post hole digger from TSC. Always thought all 3 point hitches were interchangeable, however I am finding out not. The top link adapter on my JD 70 and my Farmall 350 put the beam way too far back to work on the post hole digger. Can anyone tell me what the difference is. I mean is it the brand of tractor or size of tractor? The asst mgr from TSC said the digger fits his Ford 8N and should fit mine. I know I have 2 box blades and 2 flail mowers and a disc that all fit my tractors. What fits what??? Thanks

Do you have a JD 800 series hitch on the 70 or an aftermarket hitch?

Three point hitches are standard on the hookup end, so your tractors will hookup to anything as long as you use the toplink that is made for your hitch. They are not necessarily standard on the tractor end, especially with custom or aftermarket hitches. Sounds like the toplink is shorter on your tractors than on an 8N. You will have to shorten the digger's top bar by the difference between the length of your toplinks and the 8N toplink.

Yea, guys. The ole 70 has the top links that comes off the axle housing and meets in the middle. I guess I could run a rod thru the digger boom and on thru the two top links. I had tried it first on the Farmall with the two point fasthitch with a 3 point adapter. That won't work at all. The top link on it is in line with the bottom lift dowels, and the digger boom is made to go 8" or so farther in towards the tractor which I can't do with that adapter. On the JD I can extend the bottom arms out and it may work if I get the top link ironed out.

You take the top link off of your tractor. The main beam of the digger attaches where the top link would normally be.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be what his problem is, but if he has an 800 style hitch on that '70', there is no top link yoke for the unit to pin to. Might be a real problem.
