recently had a discussion with a friend on type of wheel. He advised that the 30 series had the open slot type wheels...however I have one with the closed type and have seen many with these. Maybe they used both type...any overview on this. Parts book shows the sloted type..

The 530 Parts Book shows the wheel p/n JD 1268. I have several 530's and they all have that p/n wheel and they are all non-slotted.

The JD 1268 (530 AND 630) AND JD 1274 (730) rims ,600x16 were subed over to JD 101 as when equipeted with roll-a-matic it was the JD 1268 and if it was equipted with a wide front end they all took a JD 1290 rim. The JD 101 replaced both these rims as a one fits all.

The 530 parts book shows the JD1268 wheel for both ROM and wide front with a 5.50x16 tire.
The 630 parts book shows a JD1268 wheel for the ROM and a JD1290 wheel for the wide front. Both with a 6.00x16 tire. The 730 book shows a JD1290 wheel with either ROM or wide front with a 6.00x16 tire. Both the 1268 and the 1290 wheels are non- slotted. I called two John Deere dealers today and both said the 1268 wheel subs to the 1290 wheel which in turn subs to a JD1291 wheel. The 1268 and the 1290 are both non-slotted wheels. I don't recall ever seeing a 1291 wheel so can't say for sure if it's slotted or not. Also the p/n JD101 in not a valid number per both Deere dealers. If a person is interested in having the correct wheels as the tractor was built then the above numbers are the ones to use. If anyone has other valid data, I'm always interested in learning more about the old two cylinders.

If I recall right the correct wheel for the 30 series is JD part JD 100 or JD 101. They are still avaibale from JD. Just short of $100. Had to buy one last year. If you mean by open slot, that there is a arch between where the wheel welds to the rim, yes that is correct.
