I have a older cylinder that has the casting number F827R on it. It has six bolts that holds the top on. What john deere model would this have come with? Thanks

Matt:

That's the number of the 4" cylinder listed in the R/80/820/830 parts book.

Don't have a book with the casting numbers, but are you talking about the ones with two sliding rods on the out side for depth ajustment? In the two banger days JD's thinking was not to sell a cylinder for the tractor but for the equipment that it was to pick up. I think they were sold in 2 1/2", 3" AND 3 1/2" DIA. Alot of 3 1/2" were sold with the 40 420 as they were, I think 900.psi. and needed the larger dia to get lift power. But there were also alot of 3 1/2" cylinders sold with R and 80's to pick up the head on pull type combines. There were 2 1/2" sold with "B" tractors for a #5 mower. And so on and so forth.
