I've got a 520 and 530,I noticed that the manifolds were set differently. The 520 says hot on
the flywheel side, the 530 says cold on the flywheel side.Which is best for summer? Thanks.

Ray, the usual rule is when the ambient temperature is above 32 the heat valve should be set to cold & below 32 should be set to hot. ~If your tractor has an all-fuel engine & you burn kerosene, or you just use it for play & parades you can probably leave it at the hot setting. ~To move that valve if it hasn't been moved in a while you will need to make a brass driver with a hole in it to fit over the valve stud then place that driver over the valve & rap it a few GOOD SOLID hits with a 5# hammer.
~When setting that heat valve IT MUST be set at either hot or cold & NEVER in between as that blocks the exhaust gas exit...

I believe they r posed to be set HOT in winter and COLD in summer. However, its important to set them right dead even on the marks. The problem is, Ive seen few that still operate and dont get froze/corroded/stuck. On my new one I thoroughly coated all surfaces with anti sieze lube, but bet thet are still stuck. Since most of my long hard use in in summer anyway, I set mine right even on the cold marks and dont bother them. John T
