Thanks first of all for all of your help on my previous forum. I checked everything all of you mentioned and am still stumped. The regulator is not freezing up, the coil is new, and the batteries are new. I did see a little different behaviour today though. The batteries were charged last week and the tractor would fire right up then die after warmup, spitting and sputtering and backfiring. The tractor would not start today as it would barely spin. I hooked my truck to it with jumper cables and in an hour or so it started. I then checked the alternator output and it is showing 15 volts, however it I pull the cables off the battery the tractor dies. I feel like the motor is running off the batteries, not the alternator and then when the battery gets down to a certain low charge it causes the coil not to fire and the engine dies. Is this possible and what should I do? Thanks

if your batteries are new, why do they need to be jumped, Im guessing you have a major drain on electrical circut, is starter or switch shorting, my humble guess,,,Bill
