Hydraulic question on a JD 2440

I have a JD 2440 (mid to late 70's model) and on Saturday the 3 point would not raise the chisel plow out of the ground, or the front end loader. I turned the tractor off and restarted it and it raised it, but only for a couple of minutes. Also the power steering was acting the same way. I called and talked to the dealership, and they recommended replacing the filters (the canister, and the long skinny one that is a nylon with rubber rings). We pulled the filters and drained the fluid. The long skinny filter was torn and some chunks of sediment were on it. I sent my dad to get some replacement hydraulic/transmission fluid for it, and he came back with Traveler brand from TSC. Is this brand any good? It says meets John Deere specs, but I thought I would ask and see what yall's experience is with this. Also, do you think this will fix my problem?
Thanks!

I put that TRAVELLER brand hydraulic oil in my 1976 2440, once, and let me tell you it was a mistake. The TSC brand stuff will eat the paint right off of the inside of the transmission case and put the resulting sludge right into your filter. Get the HyGaurd from John Deere that the manual says to use and do yourself a real favor!

Yes, the tractor has live pto, and hi/lo transmission, and as far as I know, both are working okay...
