Hi, was the top link adjusted too long?
JD had a draft control sensing on the top link mechanism. Just behind the seat and below the top link pin was a big spring inside a metal casting.
Depending on the pressure or load on the top link the spring would compress or stretch. The movement allowed by the spring was translated by a control arm to the 3 piont hitch lift lever to raise or lower the implement. This was supposed to be feed back loop to keep the plow at a constant depth in the ground.
Never worked very well on JD 420 that we had.
The other thing was a jam nut on the 3 piont hitch lift control lever that tightened against a friction washer to hold the lever in one place. After a lot of use the nut required tightening to
keep the lever from creeping up or down.

Good Luck
JB
