I just accquired a 90' John Deere 626 AMT(the old version of today's gators. I paid $600 for it. I got it running by just putting a new battery and fresh gas in it. What kind of oil does it take. It was dirty but full when I checked it. It is low on transmission fluid too. What does it take? I am going to order a manual for it soon. Brakes don't work, transmission linkage is wore out so it grinds bad+ the low fluid. Needs carb rebuilt, it sputters and spits. It has been kept in a open end shed so the bed is rusted up. Thanks for your help.

10w30 is usually used in the engine. The gearcase uses low viscosity john deere fluid. I work as a mechanic at a john deere dealer so i do service on these everyonce in a while.

I have an AMT 600 ( single seat version)and also work on them.Previous post is correct, just want to add a bit.Gearbox will always crash just push into gear quickly.Other note is brakes were always s___ ! and expensive. We very successfully fitted hydraulic callipers and hand control off a wrecked road bike to mine.Know of another that put callipers and master cylinder off Honda Civic or similar. This might suit you better as is foot controlled. Hope this helps, regards ReidyNZ
